While John, Mary and I were eating dinner this evening we started talking about beer.
John mentioned that beer is a very ancient beverage with the Sumerians, living approx 4,000 BC, known as one of the first brewers of beer.
Sumerian artifacts showing pictures of people drinking beer and beer recipes have provided a huge amount of evidence about this.
By the way – Sumeria is the area we know today as Southern Iraq.
Extra Info From Me
One of the key artifacts is a 3900 year-old Sumerian poem honouring Ninkasi, the patron goddess of brewing. This contains the oldest surviving beer recipe, describing the production of beer from barley via bread.
